It is so good to have our outdoor gear and clean clothes. Today we needed our rain jackets at the beginning of the day. It was cloudy and rainy up until the end of the day. It was a different bus ride with the rain. The windows would get all muddy from the wheels flinging it up in the air. We would stop for a break and someone would get the squeegie and bucket and clean the window for us. But as soon as we headed out again they would get muddy again. So it was rather frustrating while trying to look for animals. We did get to see 2 mother bears and their cubs in the morning but they were far away on one of the ridges. We stopped at the Toklat River stop on the route--this is a river bed that was made from a glacier millions of years ago. The river bed is 2 miles wide--it was amazing to think that ice could make such a place.
The best thing that happened today was on the way home when we were feeling down because we saw very few animals. As we turned the corner what do we see but a mother grizzly bear and her two cubs walking down the road. Everyone on the bus was so excited! The bus driver would pull close to her and angle the bus so we could take pictures. We did this a couple of times and then the mother bear decided to go down the mountain a bit. As we came by her and the cubs they headed back up toward the bus. Everyone sat as quiet as we could trying to take pictures of them along side the bus. One of her cubs was very curious and came up to the bus's door and started scratching like he wanted to get in. The cub left his footprints on the door--that was so cool! After a moment he realized that his mom was gone and he ran to catch up. They headed up the mountian to get some berries along side the road.
This was our BEARY fine moment of the day!
Tomorrow we are heading back to Anchorage for a couple of days before the cruise. Hope you have a great weekend! See you soon!
